SPAM Bots On the Prowl
« on: March 07, 2018, 06:18:22 PM »
SPAM Bots are on the prowl again, :( especially as I have one domain pointing this way, and the base not installed (both of WordPress), as they worked as honey pots. :D I am deleting them as soon as I can.

I've noticed that after some have forced their way in, the site slows way down until I remove them because of what they try to do.

There may be a day when I can't get to it, and hopefully during that same time, more of you "good folk" have signed up, so may need a friendly reminder by that point (say 11p - 7a PT) if I haven't been on, either by Private Message, or by reply here with the user in question.

I will typically find them with an ICQ an Web site and a number of them have posted a decent profile description, which the majority of us just don't do these days. So that's an easier way to find them.

I am also removing those that sign up with an obvious temp mail service as it violates one of my basic rules. For now, the email portion isn't working, so notifications that way aren't going through until I get that straightened out from the move end of January. So hence the "immediate" sign up as you wouldn't get the email to verify with.

Thankfully, with this age old forum system, there is a basic way to ban those from various known domains to be of the SPAM Bot variety, and by IP address. Those that come in with a Yahoo.com email address, I just can't "blanket" ban, as it would leave a number of "good folk" from making their way in.

Thus not much that can be done, other than keep an eye out, and remove them as soon as possible without completely abolishing the website after all the work going on 5 1-2 years and counting. And that would mean "they win", :( and we don't want that. :D

Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.

Because of all the SPAM bot accounts, registrations will now require admin approval. Generally will be quick and painless. But this will reduce the risk of those posting a topic on the "General" board before I could have gotten to them. Thanks again for you understanding and cooperation.  -Brian

* Customer Service

  • For Guests, Trial accounts and Members NOT logged in, there is NO LONGER a main shoutbox on the forum and homepage you can use. Following the NCAA Mens March Madness loss by the Arizona Wildcats, one Guest ruined it by posting the same message re: the Cats and what's transpired over the past few months. Not tolerated by myself as the owner of this site. 3/16/18 1400 PDT -Brian
  • For Members that are logged in, you will find a Members Only shoutbox on the homepage, and all available TV broadcast pages you can use.
When requesting support of a downed channel through the shoutbox, for enhanced support to guide you in the right direction, we ask of the following details:

  • TV Broadcast(s) in question
  • What you're attempting to watch on:
    • Mobile Device: Smartphone / Tablet (iOS, Android, Windows, or Linux)
    • Laptop or Desktop: Windows, Apple (Mac), Linux
    • Internet Connection: 4G, WiFi, or hardwired to a router on a broadband connection
    • Preferred Internet Browser: Microsoft Edge (Internet Explorer), Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Dolphin, etc.
We also ask of your patience as it may be a few minutes, or longer, to answer as we are not available 24/7/365-1/4, especially during the Holidays. We will do our best, but it is a 2-way street in supplying the support to help you get the best viewing experience possible.

Thank you very much,
