Who UCLA football signed during early signing period
« on: February 07, 2018, 10:28:47 AM »
With just one month to assemble his first batch of recruits, UCLA head coach Chip Kelly signed one of the smallest groups in the Pac-12 for the early signing period, but relied on local talent. Seven of UCLA’s eight early signees are from California, led by three four-star receivers and a top safety prospect from St. John Bosco, while the only out-of-state recruit comes from Oregon.

The Bruins have several verbal commitments going into Wednesday’s National Signing Day. Here’s a look at UCLA’s already signed recruits:

WR Bryan Addison: A rare top prospect from Serra High in Gardena who spurned USC for UCLA. A versatile Under Armour All-American who caught 46 passes for 582 yards and nine touchdowns as a senior with 44 tackles and five interceptions on defense.

RB Kazmeir Allen: A record-setting running back from Tulare Union High who scored 72 total touchdowns as a senior. Seems to have the speed (10.48 person record in 100-meter dash) that fits perfectly in Kelly’s offense.

OL Alec Anderson: Flipped his pledge from Washington State to UCLA in January. A necessary addition to add depth to an offensive line that will be losing three starters from last season, although he is not expected to factor in for immediate playing time.

DB Stephan Blaylock: Had 40 tackles and two interceptions during his senior season at St. John Bosco High. A longtime safety commit who stayed after the coaching turnover and even signed early, despite interest from Washington.

LB Bo Calvert: A USC flip who had 37 tackles, eight tackles for loss and four sacks as a senior at Oaks Christian High before breaking his leg in October. Coaches like his physicality and ability to run sideline-to-sideline.

WR Chase Cota: At 6-foot-4, Cota is one of two tall receivers who signed early, along with the 6-foot-5 Addison. Caught 37 passes for 654 yards and 11 touchdowns as a senior at South Medford High in Oregon.

DL Atonio Mafi: A mammoth nose tackle who is valued for his size (6-foot-3, 360 pounds) as the Bruins are expected to use a 3-4 defensive front under Kelly. A former Cal commit who flipped to UCLA.
